David Beyda: NYC Headshot Specialist for Business, Law, and the Arts
Thousands of Faces, One Philosophy
20+ Years of New York’s Most Impressive Faces
Since opening The David Beyda Studio in the heart of NYC in 1997, I’ve had the privilege of photographing thousands of New York’s most impressive heads. From entire corporate firms and politicians to scientists, authors, and actors at every level of their craft, my studio is a space for everyone to look their absolute best.
Energy... Personality... Success!
The Secret of 'Meaningful Distraction'
My philosophy is simple: Energy, Personality, and Success. Most people feel a little stiff in front of a camera, so I’ve mastered the art of meaningful distraction. By welcoming positivity and keeping the energy high, I help you move past the poses to release your true personality. When you feel good, you look amazing—and in this city, that is the ultimate definition of success. I know most people would rather be at the dentist than in front of a camera. My job is to change that.
Polished, Professional, and Proven: 20+ Years of Corporate Excellence
Fast-Paced Efficiency for Midtown Professionals
In the heart of Manhattan, I know your time is your most precious asset. That’s why I’ve spent 20 years perfecting a session that moves at the speed of your schedule without ever sacrificing the result. My ‘meaningful distraction’ technique allows us to find that sharp, polished, and incredible look in record time. You get to skip the stiff poses, ditch the camera-shyness, and get back to business looking better than you ever thought possible.
Professionalism with a Pulse: Attorney Portraits that Build Trust
Attorney Headshots in NYC With Professionalism, Style and Personality
With over 20+ years in Manhattan, I know that a legal headshot is more than just a photo—it’s a brief for your expertise. I specialize in capturing the quiet confidence and approachability that turns prospects into clients. My goal is to make you look as sharp as your counsel, ensuring you walk away with a portrait that feels powerful, polished, and looks absolutely incredible. I make sure your first impression is every bit as strong as your advocacy.
Step Into the Spotlight: Dynamic Headshots for Actors and Talent
Auditions, Casting, Branding: The Strength of the Unrehearsed
I believe your best headshot is the one we discover together. By bringing 20+ years of Manhattan energy into a session that never stops moving, we find those natural, high-impact moments that a stiff pose just can’t touch. That is The Beyda Style: a free-flowing, high-energy process that leaves you looking incredible and walking away with a portrait that feels more vibrant and more ‘you’ than you ever imagined.
The Art of the Mood — Creative Distraction & The Magic of the Schmooze
I know the camera can be a sensitive place. Whether you’re worried about age, weight, or a few extra wrinkles, I’m here to tell you: I’ve got you covered. While I use expert studio lighting and specialized angles to make you look incredible, the real secret isn’t in the lens—it’s in the mood.
My technique is built on positive energy and a commitment to your comfort. I’m an inquisitive photographer by nature, always looking for that spark to start a ‘schmooze’ (my favorite word for a great chat). This isn’t just small talk; it’s a form of Creative Distraction.
If I see you overthinking a pose or getting caught in a “stiff executive mask,” I’ll pivot the conversation to something completely unrelated—motorcycles, cheesecake, or the history of the No. 1 Train. This collaborative exchange allows your authentic expression to surface naturally. By mirroring your unique energy—whether high-octane or calm and focused—we bypass the nerves to capture a professional portrait that feels intelligent, lively, and 100% you.
Using My Sixth Sense to Make You Shine
Sensitivity is everything in my studio. I use my five senses (and a bit of a sixth) to notice the small things you might be self-conscious about. My job is to mitigate those concerns—sometimes with a reassuring word, sometimes with a quick adjustment of the lights, and always with a bit of humor. When your concerns vanish, your personality finally has the space to shine. That’s when the magic happens, and that’s when we get the shot.
The Ultimate Studio Collaboration: David Beyda x Elizabeth Williams
When the legendary courtroom artist Elizabeth Williams booked her appointment, I realized who she was and was looking forward to meeting her. For over forty years, Elizabeth has documented history’s most massive federal trials for the Associated Press, and her sketches live permanently in the Library of Congress. But the moment she walked into my Midtown studio, she instantly put me at ease, regaling me with wild stories about mobsters and other notorious characters she has spent her professional life drawing.
I didn’t have a rigid plan going into the shoot—I never do. Instead, I work entirely off the cues people give me and their unique personality. In Elizabeth’s case, she is wonderfully talkative, engaging, and full of life. Every photo session is a shared personal experience. I’m a person dealing with a person, so we work together—listening to each other, thinking, laughing, and just making it work. At the same time, I use my experience to gently direct them along the way so we walk away with a massive variety of great shots to choose from.
I was working rapid-fire, snapping hundreds of shots, moving as fast as I could to capture her genuine warmth, spirit, and spunky New Yorkerness. Then, she completely turned the tables onand “do you have a pen and a paper?” Tapping into that lightning-fast sketching speed she refined over decades on courtroom benches, and live-sketched me right there in action.
I spend my entire life capturing personal moments in the lives of others. For a master of her craft to turn around and capture a moment of my own life while I am doing my thing—that was awesome, and it’s something I’ll never forget. It’s what the Beyda Technique is all about—completely connecting with someone’s energy, having a blast, and capturing a moment that is genuinely real.
I Sweat the Small Stuff—It’s My Commitment to Your Satisfaction
In my studio, every detail matters. While we’re busy finding your best energy, I’m quietly focused on the technical precision—using 20+ years of expertise to manage the subtle things, like using light and angles to refine your silhouette or balance asymmetrical features. I sweat the anatomical details so you don’t have to. This is my commitment to you: I’m not finished until we’ve captured a look that feels confident, polished, and incredible—and most importantly, until you are truly happy with the way you look.
The Secret to a Headshot that Connects
There is nothing more compelling than the real you
What makes someone want to meet, connect, and work with you? It’s seeing the real, thinking, feeling person behind the image. My goal is to capture you as you are—authentic, unforced, and completely natural. Using The Beyda Style, we move past the ‘posing’ to find that genuine, unscripted moment. It’s a headshot that doesn’t just show your face; it uses your unique energy to introduce your character to the world.
